Torpedo Update - Heading into Final Week

Torpedoes,

1. Meet of Champions Entries (MOC). Due to dramatic facility cost increases, the MOC format has changed such that Division 3 & 4 entries are limited to 24 swimmers per individual event, and two relays per age group of the team’s choice.

  • What does that mean for you and your family??
    • DECLARE YOUR SWIMMERS FOR MOC NOW at https://www.swimnt.org/swim_meets – select the “MOC 10 & Under” and/or “MOC 11 & Up” events. If you want to see if your athlete has made the top 24 in their event, see the attached files for Top Times through meet 4 or check out the SHRSL Website: https://shrsl.org/top-times/ and click the DIVISION THREE TOP TIMES.
  • My Child is not in the Top 24, do I still need to declare??
    • YES!! We get two relays for each age group. If your child isn’t in the top 24 times, they can still be part of a relay. The Coaching staff will choose 8 swimmers to be part of the relay for MOC. Relay Swimmers will be determined primarily off the 8-10 fastest times in their age group. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact myself or Coach Brogan.

2. Volunteer Jobs for MOC. Volunteer positions at MOC are assigned across all participating teams, and we will soon update the signup screen with these opportunities for each MOC event. Due to the diverse nature of roles and swimmers involved, volunteer duties for MOC and All Stars are not factored into the volunteer point calculation. If your child is participating in MOC, volunteering is expected, regardless of your current point total.

3. Meet 5 Volunteer Jobs. There are currently 18 vacant positions for Monday’s swim meet. For technical issues the meet is closed, please go to the form at https://www.swimnt.org/contact-us, select “Volunteering” as the topic and send us a message with your desired job. Here is the list of vacancies:

Multiple individuals step up weekly to cover for absences or gaps, often going beyond their volunteer commitments. These efforts extend far beyond what is visible during events. For instance, after yesterday’s swim meet most team members left quickly, leaving behind a small group comprised of board members, spouses, and a few dedicated parents. Approximately ten people, who had not signed up for this task, stayed to dismantle and store away everything – benches, equipment, concessions, and rearranging pool furniture. This additional work took over an hour to complete after the meet ended. I highlight this to emphasize the importance of everyone pitching in to ensure a successful season. The volunteer point system, while imperfect, is a necessary tool. We also rely on your understanding and flexibility as parents to meet the team's needs. Please keep in mind that our collective effort is ultimately for the benefit of the swimmers; the point system serves merely as a mechanism to organize our efforts.

Please contact me, any Board Member or Coach Sean with any questions or comments.

Regards,

Dan
