Latest Message from Volunteer Coordinator
Dear Torpedoes Families:
I am writing to inform you of some important upcoming events. First part is the TLDR (Too Long Didn't Read), though I hope you all will read this in its entirety to make Job Signups as easy and pleasant as possible this season:
BOTTOM LINE
1. Volunteer Job Signup: Wednesday, 8 May, 8:00 pm. Highly Recommended to log-in on time (details forthcoming) and have a plan.
2. Stroke Clinic: This Saturday, 4 May, 8:30 am. Be there to earn one volunteer pointand become qualified as a Stroke Judge, which is worth the maximum amount of points per unit time.
3. Tent Parents MUST complete the Background Check before the Job Signup on 8 May, otherwise, they cannot sign up for the position: https://shrsl.org/forms/background-screening/ .
4. Please reach out to me soonest if your teenager, 16 or older, wants to earn some money by being a Torpedoes Volunteer for Hire.
BACKGROUND
Volunteer Job Signup, Wednesday, 8 May, 8:00 pm. Log on as early as possible after that time and sign up for your events. It is best to have a plan. When do you have family vacation or other events in May and June? Is it easier to be available when the meet begins or the second half of the meet? Are your kids under 6? If so, it is usually best to sign up for positions that begin at the beginning of a meet because kids under 6 do not swim during the second half of a meet. Most positions are worth 2 points per half-meet. The most critical positions are worth 3 points per half. Each family will be required to get 12 points, though at this time, we may be able to get it down to 11. That will be confirmed before 8 May.
Stroke Clinic, this Saturday, 4 May, 8:30 am. We MUST have Stroke Judges and we award one volunteer point for showing up and completing the Stroke Clinic. A Stroke Judge is a critical position, which means we cannot have a swim meet without Stroke Judges. Because of the importance of the position, Stroke Judges get 3 points per half-meet or a total of 6 points for an entire swim meet. However, a stroke judge must be qualified in order to volunteer. There are other opportunities to qualify throughout the league, but this Saturday is the soonest and easiest.
To be a Tent Parent, a volunteer MUST complete the Background Check prior to 8 MAY at 8PM, otherwise you cannot sign up for the position. The computer will not even let you sign up for Tent Parent. A Tent Parent receives 2 points per half-meet or 4 points for an entire meet. Here is the link: https://shrsl.org/forms/background-screening/ or on our website, https://swimnt.org , go to Volunteers at the top, scroll down to the paragraph Volunteer Requirements and select SHRSL Background Checks.
Torpedoes Volunteer for Hire. Another way that our volunteer requirements are allowed to be fulfilled is by hiring someone outside of your family to complete the event(s) for you. We provide a few names and contact information for you to coordinate. The cost is a flat rate of $50 per half-meet or specific event. Torpedoes swimmers that are 16 are unfortunately not eligible. If you know a kid who wants to earn some money this summer, please reach out to me with their contact information, or better still, have that enterprising young person reach out to me on their own. Even better than that is if this enterprising young adult is also already equipped to receive payment by Apple Cash, Venmo, Zelle, and PayPal!
I look forward to serving and working with all of you this season. Please reach out with questions or to provide contact for a good kid for hire at [email protected], Attention: Volunteer Coordinator and I will get back to you as soon as I can. Thank you.
